Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had challenged the decision of the lower court in the Delhi Excise Policy case in the High Court. His petition was heard in the Delhi High Court on Monday. After the hearing, the High Court has issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and asked it to file a reply.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, through his petition, had asked the High Court to cancel the order of the subordinate court. On Monday, while presenting Sisodia's side in the Delhi High Court, his lawyer requested the High Court that the Special Justice took cognizance of the charge sheet even though there was no approval to prosecute the former Chief Minister of Delhi. Whereas the former CM was a public servant at the time of the alleged crime.

What is the claim of the investigating agencies?

On the contrary, the central investigating agencies CBI and ED have claimed in the court that negligence was committed while amending the Delhi Excise Policy. Its purpose was to provide undue benefits to the license holders under a well-planned strategy.

Excise policy canceled in September 2022
The Delhi government implemented the new excise policy on 17 November 2021. After implementing the new policy, the Delhi government was accused of scam in the Delhi liquor policy case. LG had recommended CBI investigation

Before this decision of the Delhi government, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena had recommended a CBI inquiry into the matter to investigate the alleged irregularities in implementing the excise policy. After that the CBI had registered a case.
