A Mumbai court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of killing his son for refusing to call his second wife 'mother'. Additional Sessions Judge SD Tavshikar on Monday convicted the accused Salim Sheikh for the murder that took place in 2018, saying that the prosecution successfully proved that he was the 'sole mastermind of this crime'. The court has sentenced the accused father 6 years after the murder.
Refused to call second wife mother
The victim's mother (Shaikh's first wife) had lodged a complaint that in August 2018, when her son Imran refused to call Salim Sheikh's second wife mother, an argument broke out between the two. According to the FIR, the dispute took a violent turn when Salim attacked Imran.
Injured Imran by hitting with scissors
Sensing the danger, the complainant reached the police station for help. But by the time the police reached Salim's house in Dongri area of South Mumbai, Salim had attacked Imran with scissors and injured him badly.
Declared dead in hospital by doctors
According to the FIR lodged with the police, Imran was declared dead in the hospital. Salim Sheikh's lawyer claimed that Imran was drunk and he killed himself by injuring himself with a sharp weapon.
Court ignored arguments
However, the court ignored these arguments and said that if the victim had attempted suicide, his mother would not have gone to the police station for help. The court said that if he had committed suicide, his mother and others (eyewitnesses) would have tried to stop him.
